Health Data Resources

The following organizations provide data and information for translational health research and grant applications.

  • HCUPnet – HCUPnet is a free, on-line query system based on data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). It provides access to health statistics and information on hospital inpatient and emergency department utilization.

  • MEPSnet/HC – Medical Expenditure Survey Panel, MEPSnet/HC gives you easy access to nationally representative statistics of health care use, expenditures, sources of payment, and insurance coverage for the U.S. civilian non institutionalized population. With MEPSnet/HC you can generate statistics using Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) Household Component public use files.

  • AHRQ State Snapshots– AHRQ State Snapshots The State Snapshots provide State-specific health care quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help State officials and their public- and private-sector partners better understand health care quality and disparities in their State.

  • Kaiser Family Foundation – Kaiser Family Foundation State Health Facts The Kaiser Foundation focuses on major health care issues facing the nation, as well as U.S. role in global health policy. The Foundation is a “non-partisan source of facts and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the general public.

  • Texas State University profile data – Reports about students, faculty, staff, campus, demographics etc, and self-serve data (CatStats, Pivot Tables etc) for customized information.

  • University of Missouri Center for Applied Research and Engagement - tools for reporting social determinants of health and key health indicators in a particular area.

  • Texas Health Data - DSHS Center for Health Statistics.

  • CARES Engagement Network – Data and Reporting tool that integrates information into map of selected area.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield’s The Health of America Tool - The Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Health Index quantifies over 200 different diseases and other health conditions in specific locations across America to identify which diseases and conditions most affect Americans' longevity and quality of life. It is powered by annual data from more than 41 million BCBS members who are commercially insured Americans.

  • North Carolina Center for Health Statistics - SCHS is responsible for data collection, health-related research, production of reports, and maintenance of a comprehensive collection of health statistics. We provide high-quality health information for better-informed decisions and effective health policies. The goal is to improve the health of all North Carolinians and their communities.

  • U. S. Bureau of the Census - Interactive Internet Data Tools available to explore United States Census data.

  • Salud America! - Hays County Latino Health Report Card by county or MSA.

  • World Health Organization: Global Health Observatory- WHO’s gateway to health-related statistics from around the world. The aim of the GHO portal is to provide easy access to country data and statistics with a focus on comparable estimates, and WHO’s analyses to monitor global, regional and country situation and trends.

  • CDC – National Center for Health Statistics The mission of the National Center for health Statistics (NCHS) is to provide statistical information that will guide actions and policies to improve the health of the American people. As the Nation’s principal health statistics agency, NCHS leads the way with accurate, relevant, and timely data.
