Research Areas:
Exploratory data analysis (EDA), survey sampling, computational statistics, and management science.

Background

Dr. Méndez conducts research in exploratory data analysis and computational statistics. He is a co-principal investigator on Data Science Pathways (DSP), an online data science credentialing program. The program was conceived by Dr. Larry Fulton and Dr. Melinda Villagran as a way to increase skilled data science workers in the Texas Innovation Corridor through certification and credentialing. Dr. Méndez is a Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at Texas State University. He has an MBA in Quantitative Methods, a BBA in Finance, and a BBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Puerto Rico. He received his PhD in Management Science from Rutgers.

About Faculty Fellows Projects

Dr. Francis Méndez facilitated Data Science Pathways while working with THRC and the Department of World Languages and Literatures to begin translating DSP learning modules into Spanish. The project aimed to expand DSP’s reach to Spanish-speaking and bilingual workers in Texas while providing an opportunity for TXST language students to gain experience in professional translation.

Partnering with Communities to Tackle Youth Substance Use | UIMH. In the third session of the Understanding Indicators of Mental Health series, we learned about current adolescent substance use trends, including accidental fentanyl overdoses, and explored strategies for collaborating with community agencies and schools to address these issues.
