This session highlights key findings and lessons learned from a regional, multi-institution rural health survey led by the Translational Health Research Center (THRC) in partnership with the T.L.L. Temple Foundation and the support of the Northeast Texas Public Health District. The session also features project collaborators who will share insights from conducting research in rural settings, including effective strategies for community engagement, cross-institutional collaboration, and translating findings into impact. The discussion synthesizes what research reveals about lived experience and health access in rural communities, and how this knowledge can inform stronger policies and programs. Central Texas, from North Austin to San Antonio, is facing significant mental health challenges, often leaving residents without the care they need. In response, we launched the Mental Health Community Collaborative (MHCC).
This initiative brings together mental health professionals and local advocates for open discussions on mental health, aiming to find actionable solutions and address critical needs. Through a virtual community of practice, MHCC seeks to engage Texans in meaningful conversations and work collectively to tackle these challenges. This Virtual Learning Network is available and open to everyone. This project is federally funded.

Rural communities face unique health challenges, from limited acess to care to resource gaps that impact overall wellbeing. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration, shared knowledge & innovative strategies. In response, Texas State University's Translational Health Research Center is launching a community program called Rural Health Research for Community Change.

This series will bring together healthcare providers, researchers, and community leaders to learn from one another and engage in discussions to explore practical solutions.
