Research Area:

Data journalism, data visualization, influence of technical systems, e.g., social media platforms and web content management systems, on communication and knowledge production.

Faculty Fellows Project:

Dr. Daniel Carter leads Texas Community Health News (TCHN) in collaboration with Ms. Kym Fox. Many smaller counties don’t have the budget to produce their own stories, reports, and data, and in response TCHN, addresses this scarcity by leveraging the expertise of independent journalists and data visualization in order to foster health and resilience. The project aims to increase the capacities of news organizations across Texas and create awareness of public health issues through the publication of free-to-republish reports and data representations. Dr. Carter leads the data journalism and data visualization aspects of this joint effort.
