Substance misuse across the lifespan, prescription drug misuse, prescription misuse and psychopathology

Background:

Dr. Ty S. Schepis examines substance use across the lifespan, particularly prescription drug misuse and polysubstance use. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Addiction, International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, JAMA, JAMA Pediatrics, and Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, his work has influenced policy and treatment guidelines. This includes updates to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) package inserts and the ASAM/AAAP Clinical Practice Guideline on the Management of Stimulant Use Disorder.

He has received over $2.5 million in awards from the US National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) as Principal Investigator and has been a Co-Investigator on additional grants from NIDA and the FDA.

Dr. Schepis a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Texas State University and an Affiliate Member of the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health at the University of Michigan. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2006 and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale School of Medicine before joining Texas State University in 2009.
