Dr. Jessica Kathleen Perrotte
Assistant Professor - Psychology
Research Areas:
Alcohol use, gender, women, and health risk behaviors.
Background
Dr. Jessica Perrotte explores how distal sociocultural factors (e.g., cultural orientation, gender roles), stressors (e.g., discrimination), and proximal cognitive-motivational factors (e.g., motives, expectancies) relate to alcohol misuse and health risk behaviors, with a focus on Hispanic/Latina/o/x American young adults. Her work is supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Perrotte is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Texas State University and Director of Social, Cultural, and Cognitive Approaches to Examining Risky and Addictive Behaviors (SCCAERAB).
About Faculty Fellows Projects
This research initiative is dedicated to advancing understanding of the complex relationships between risky behaviors—such as alcohol and substance misuse—and suicidality, including suicidal thoughts and behaviors. By examining how these behaviors intersect and influence one another, the project aims to identify key risk factors and patterns among individuals most vulnerable to harm. Insights gained from this work will inform the development of personalized interventions tailored to the unique risk profiles of at-risk individuals, with the ultimate goal of improving prevention and support strategies for those experiencing both substance use challenges and suicidality.
