The Fentanyl Education, Support, and Training Awareness (FESTA) program brings evidence-based substance use prevention education to schools across Hays County. This series aims to extend the current FESTA program by bringing substance use education to school districts across the region and broadening our community’s capacity to facilitate referrals and support systems for youth and young adults.
Project Goals
Through increasing fentanyl awareness and education, the FESTA Program aims to reduce the onset and progression of fentanyl use and its related consequences in Hays County, Texas.
01. Assess Community Needs
Identify the needs of the Hays County community as they relate to substance use through a needs assessment survey and interview.
03. Expand Substance Use Awareness
Provide community outreach events and training opportunities to increase the awareness and knowledge of substance use through Naloxone/Narcan trainings.
02. Educate Local Students
Create and implement evidence-based 45-minute presentations for sixth through twelfth-grade students.
04. Connect Students to Support
Embed TXST School of Social Work BSW and MSW student interns in 3 school districts for problem identification and referral.

Where FESTA Is Going Starts With Listening
Understanding a community starts with listening to the people in it. Kelly Clary, was recently featured discussing how the FESTA Program brings together research, storytelling, and lived experiences to support veterans and young people through substance use education and prevention.
As FESTA continues to grow, we’re focused on bringing community voices to the forefront and turning those experiences into meaningful research, education, and action.
